  • How do the scientists study the reef? What are they trying to show or figure out?By diving and they are trying to discover If coral can survive was bad things in the water 
  • Why are the NZ scientists testing in an "artificially acidified sea water" - what does this mean? They get a bucket and put some pollution in it and see if the coral can grow.
  • Why does Australia have tropical coral and NZ have cold-water coral?Because New Zealand is not close to the equator and it is very cold.
  • Where does NZ cold-water coral grow? How far down? Why can't NZ have tropical coral?Around New Zealand 2500 m down and it is too because it is too cold.

The Great Barrier Reef

Reef sharks- are sharks that live in the reff
Clams-very big clams
Memorized-it look complex
Cauliflower coral-corals that look like cauliflower
Snorkeling-Diving with a small tube
Staghorn coral- coral like sticks 
Clownfish- A very beautiful fish what yellow and orange
Vibrantly-Small sound wave

Where is the Barrier Reef- the easten coast of Australia 
How long- 2900km
How is it made-It is made by the waves the waves created cracking rocks so the coral 
 can live in it then the fish live in the coral 
Name 10 animals that live their- corals, lobsters, clams, seahorses, sponges, sea turtles. clown fish. Angelfish, Reef sharks and Algae  
Why is it called a Tropical Reef- because it is warm and it is close to the equator. 
What temperature is the Great Barrier Reef- 23 degrees Celsius in Winter and 29 degrees Celsius in summer.
What is an ocean Acidification-Water is going too hot because the Carbon dioxide dissolves in the water and heats up.

Underground soldiers page 36 and 37


Eh htoo- April 1917 there was a three big explosion the Germans lane then allies came running out of the tunnel in the explosion the allies killed a lot of the Germans the allies took 11 kilometres into German territory
Then the German fought back lots of British and Canadian soldiers died some were wounded at taken to the hospital in the exit tunnels if there was no underground cave system lot may have died after the war the allies built Bridge, road, gun post   


When did the battle of Arras happen? Who was involved?

On 9 of April 1917 to 16 of April 1917.


How long was the battle supposed to last?

Between 18 months and two years


Why was this battle so important to the war?

To break the stalemate to get across no mans land.


How many Allied soldiers died in this battle? Nearly 40 thousand allies died


How were many Allied soldiers able to be saved? (hint: remember what else they built in the caves..) the Allied were saved because they built a hospital in the caves to save some soldiers.


How many German soldiers died in this battle? 150,000

How was this new job dangerous, in a way they hadn’t experienced before? Shooting, digging, mining, supporting, defending. They were above ground instead of below ground.


Once the Germans started retreating, what was the NZ soldiers new job? They had to find landmines there called boobytraps.


Why did these soldiers stay in Europe much longer than other soldiers?

To check if the enemy might come back and guard.
